National Women's Month: Don't Underestimate Women's Power

Do you know what the month of March celebrates? It's National Women's Month!

The month of March is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the country’s women. It is also the month where it is dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence, sexism, and other hardships that women face daily. The event includes the International Women’s Month on March 8 that was signed and released by the United Nations, which is to discuss the civil and human rights and equality of women.

However, are you aware that our country, the Philippines, holds one of the best gender equality ratings worldwide? It said that Filipino women really care about their rights as individual citizens in the country. The Filipino women fought for their rights to work in politics and vote. It was also mentioned that in 1907, the nation’s suffrage movement was founded, but it took 30 years before women were allowed to participate in political development. March serves as a reminder to address the different issues and recognize all women's rights. In these areas, they said that women are complex. They can do anything, even the work of man.

However, the Philippines still struggles with the number of cases related to violence against women, even if there are above-average developments in gender equality. Only about 30% of the approximately one-fourth of women who suffer from physical violence file police reports and seek help.

Although laws penalizing this violence are in place, the number of cases continues to rise, mirroring the tendencies of other countries. The Philippines still always tries to fix it, and this is one of the reasons why the United Nations established international celebrations of women’s rights. It includes International Women’s Day, which reminds people of the importance of discussing and raising awareness about the challenges women face around the world.

Moreover, Filipinos really value education since, according to them, it is the best legacy that their parents will leave. However, sometimes mothers say that education is the best weapon and that a diploma is the best thing a girl will earn. They said that it's hard to be a woman because they eventually choose men in other fields. But now there are many women who choose courses that used to be only men, but now there are women who apply those courses.

So, in this generation, they are actually women who fight for their rights because they know within themselves that they are not a simple woman who just supports men, but rather that they can be the person who can create and do things that may help others. They can be the leader, and they can be what they want, not because of stereotypes. They are not weak because they know they are also a great foundation around the globe.

To wrap up, National Women’s Month is a great month that shows achievement and also raises awareness of the different problems that women face. This month is a great one for people to realize that women are powerful and unique. That they can be complex, cool, and fearless leaders. You cannot estimate their determination and ability. Always remember that women should not be defined by their gender because they can turn things upside down.
