Celebrating National Children's Day: To promote efforts and assure the promotion of children's rights and welfare
The month of November in the Philippines is a very special month because it highlights the
ways in which we can support the children. We all know that “Ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan,” or, in other words, the youth are the future of the nation, which means they are the key to change, and we need them to educate properly so that our world will be better. This is a time to celebrate and honor children's rights and well-being, as they are the future of our society.
But first of all, what is National Children’s Month? This celebration is every November; it is commonly called the "National Children’s Month Act," or Republic Act No. 10661, and directs an acknowledgment of the rights and welfare of Filipino children. It focuses on the children who need help, especially those who have suffered from abuse, poverty, natural calamities, and violence. But overall, this act is for all the children in the Philippines.
The National Children's Month has a lot of activities that can be joined, like art contests, poster and slogan-making contests, a children’s fair, and more. This month has a lot of activities because they are aiming to raise awareness and promote the rights of Filipino children. The activities also aim to provide children with opportunities for fun, learning, and social participation. By participating in these activities, we can demonstrate our support and appreciation for Filipino children and assist them in reaching their full potential.
National Children's Month is just one of many ways to advocate for the well-being of children. However, even if the children have rights—the right to live, the right to education, the right to express their own thoughts, etc. Many children are actually dying because of malnutrition, lack of safety, violence, and more. So, as a student and a youth in the Philippines, I can support the efforts and ensure the promotion of children's rights and welfare by supporting and collaborating with organizations or programs that aim for a better environment for the children. Advocate for the implementation of UNCRC in my community. And by celebrating and appreciating too about this month.
Furthermore, if it's particular to healthcare, I educate myself and others so that they know what’s wrong and true. By doing some activities like voluntarily giving food, water, and basic needs that can help them to survive, or by volunteering or donating to health care services and programs that provide children with good quality, easily accessible care. Participating in events and campaigns that support the health and well-being of children and to provide health education and information and assist them in developing healthy habits and lifestyles, I also need to respect and support these rights for a better world.
Overall, this month is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of children. We also need to understand that this month is not only a celebration but also an invitation that we need to take a step or take action. Since there’s a lot of cases concerning children. So, let us take action for better and greater lives.
